It’s March! Not only does that mean that spring is almost here (Goodbye cold winter mornings!) but that we get to celebrate one of the most important days of the year: International Women’s Day on March 8th!
Originating from the 20th-century suffragette and women’s labor movements around the world, the first International Women’s Day was celebrated in 1911 with over a million participants in Denmark, Sweden, and Germany. At first, it had no set date and was mostly celebrated in Eastern Europe, but eventually, the United Nations began celebrating International Women’s Day, inviting all participants to join in on March 8th, 1977.
Today, the holiday holds space for all women to celebrate our hard-earned freedoms and to embrace our own beauty, strength, and power as we continue to demand justice and freedom for all women.
